As it is getting chilly every day, you may be wondering if you could add some warm dishes to your table at the end of the day. Here are some hotpot “nabe” choices you may want to consider. It is very common for the Japanese to crave warm “nabe” dinner on a chilly day.
寄せ鍋 Yose-nabe
Anything can be counted as a Yose-nabe ingredient, but the common ingredients are meat (chicken or pork), white fish, veggies and mushrooms, usually seasoned with salt, miso, or soy sauce and sake.
おでん Oden
Japanese radish, konnyaku, fish sausage, boiled eggs, kelp, and other ingredients cooked in a special broth of soy sauce, sugar, and sake. Broth seasonings vary with locality.
しゃぶしゃぶ Shabu-shabu
People enjoy thin slices of beef or pork by cooking them with the soup and dipping them into the sauce.
