Have you ever heard of Tanabata? It is one of the Japanese traditional festivals known as Star Festival.
There is a romantic story called Orihime and Hikoboshi, represented by stars Vega of the Lyre and Altaire of the Eagle. According to legend, the Milky Way separates these lovers, and they are allowed to meet only once a year on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.
In Japan on the night of July 7th, people decorate bamboo trees with colorful sheets of papers called Tanzaku with their wishes written, and make wishes upon stars of Orihime and Hikoboshi. Write down your wishes on Tanzaku to enjoy Tanabata festival by all means this year!
Depending on the areas, how to celebrate Tanabata and the date of celebrations are different. Especially Tanabata in Sendai, the northeast part of Japan, is very famous and absolutely beautiful.
