Chinese New Year Celebrations in Yokohama!

On 16 February, we will feel the festive and joyful atmosphere all around Yokohama Chinatown, also known as Yokohama Chukagai, which is said to be the largest Chinatown in Asia.

There will be a number of colorful dragons and lions dance back and forth throughout the whole town. If the lion’s huge face comes closer and tries to eat you from the head, then you are lucky (don’t be afraid)! This is said to bring good fortune and perfect health into your life. You just might want to be aware of  firecrackers that always come with them, which also are said to spread good fortune and remove negative vibes.

Other than this, people enjoy many different varieties of events, such as Chinese circus, dance performances, costume parades, and more during the special week. It is definitely worth a try if you are in the Tokyo area – it only takes around 40 minutes from Shibuya to Motomachi Chukagai, the nearest station to Chinatown.

And remember, just let us know if you need any help choosing the best place to eat. There are hundreds of choices in Yokohama Chinatown, and you don’t want to miss anything out!
